Ryan Lochte and Jimmy Feigen recommended for indictment

Prosecutors in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil have recommended indictment for United States Olympic swimmers Ryan Lochte and Jimmy Feigen for falsely reporting a crime, according to ABC News. This is coming off of the heels of Lochte saying that he, Feigen, and two other Olympic swimmers were robbed at gunpoint. That was later determined to be false.

Civil Police chief Fernando Veloso commented on the situation, saying:

“No robbery was committed against these athletes. They were not victims of the crimes they claimed.”

Veloso says that Lochte, Feigen, and two of their teammates vandalized a bathroom at a gas station in Rio. Veloso also says that video surveillance footage shows the swimmers trying to get away in their taxi, however they were unsuccessful. The swimmers ended up paying an undisclosed amount of money to the manager of the gas station.

International Olympics Committee spokesman Mario Andrada commented, saying:

“We have to understand that these kids came here to have fun. Let’s give these kids a break. Sometimes you make decisions that you later regret. They had fun. They made a mistake. Life moves on.
