It is the end of the Summer, and for wrestling fans that only means that is time for SummerSlam, which is live tomorrow night at 7 PM Eastern on the WWE Network. Before Slam, NXT starts off the weekend with NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II. So I am going to predict every match on the card and give who who I think is going to win and why.
Billie Kay vs. Ember Moon.
For the past few weeks on NXT, everyone has been seeing video packages for a new superstar named Ember Moon who is going to debut at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II. From what we have seen from the packages, Moon could be a force in the NXT Women’s division if used right.
Ever since arriving in NXT last year, Billie Kay has had a bumpy road in the company. Losing most of her matches and being used as a wrestler to put Superstars over, Kay is still a project that needs some work. A win here could give Kay the momentum she needs to get on the right track. A few weeks ago Kay convinced NXT General Manager William Regal to let her face Moon at the show.
Whenever the WWE hypes up a debut for a new superstar coming into the company, most of the time the company has them go on to win the first few matches for a few months to get them over. With the way Moon has been hyped up to be in the video packages, it is most likely the case here with her.
At the end of the day, it is obvious that Moon will win this match since it is her debut and it looks like the company has high hopes for her. Do not expect this match to go over 6 minutes unless the company wants Kay to show a little bit of offense. So my pick to win is Ember Moon.
Bobby Roode vs Andrade Cien Almas.
On August 3rd, after months of speculating and waiting, Bobby Roode finally made his debut in NXT. Roode is a well-known wrestler from his work in TNA, where he became a superstar and the longest reigning world champion.
There is a reason why Roode is known all around the world. He is a great mix of a powerhouse and a technical wrestler. wrestler. He uses this mix to his advantage. Even though he is a good wrestler, he also can cut great promos. It is best to keep Roode as a cocky heel because that is where he does his best work.
After having a successful run as a luchador, Andrade Almas made his NXT debut at NXT Takeover The End, beating Tye Dillinger. Almas showed off his luchador background during the match.
Almas has been on a roll since debuting in NXT, winning all of his matches during the NXT Weekly shows, but this will be his hardest challenge to date when he faces someone with a lot of experience and knows how to make an impact in a well-known company in Roode.
In my opinion, Roode has got to win this match. With all the hype surrounding him, it makes sense for him to win his first big match in NXT. Roode is the better wrestler out of the two by a long shot. It should be a good match, to say the least, but at the end of the day Roode will pull out with the win.
Austin Aries vs No Way Jose
A few months ago, Austin Aries’ debut was cut short due to Baron Corbin attacking him from behind. After the attack the two faced at NXT Takeover Dallas, which Aries won. Ever since that event, Aries has been impressive during his time in NXT.
Aries is a great technical wrestler, who loves to use his submissions to his advantage. do not judge Aries by his size. He may be small, but he can move in the ring. Aries can also do high flying moves when he wants to risk his body.
Ever since debuting in NXT, No Way Jose has been a popular superstar with the fans in NXT. His “loves to have fun” gimmick is something the crowd can get behind, and that is why Jose is so loved with the NXT universe.
Jose has shown a serious side of himself ever since Aries attacked him a few weeks ago. So he would really benefit from this win, but Aries needs to bounce back from his last loss to Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Takeover The End.
This will be a god end to a rivalry, and this could go either way. One way this could go is to give Jose the win and he get some credibility for beating a top star. Another way to go with this is to make Aries a threat to the NXT title by making him beat Jose and have him go after the NXT title.
In my opinion, Aries has to win this one. He already lost to Nakamura at the last takeover special, so he needs to gain some momentum by beating Jose at the show. So my pick to win this match Austin Aries.
The Revival (C) vs. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa For The NXT Tag Team Championship.
Ever since winning back the NXT Tag Team titles for the second time at NXT Takeover The End, The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) have been impressive. Some people thought those two would be on the main roster by now, but that is not the case, and they are both in NXT holding down the fort in the tag team division.
Dawson and Wilder are not the same tag team that you see in the WWE these days. Those two are both great technical wrestlers who love to use technical wrestling to their advantage in order to win time and time again.
Debuting as a tag team during the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, Gargano and Ciampa are the hottest tag team in NXT right now outside of the tag team champions. They even have a win over the Revival. It was a nontitle match but a win is still a win.
Even though Gargano and Ciampa are still new to NXT, they are not strangers to the ring. In the independent wrestling circuit, Gargano and Ciampa have made names for themselves as singles superstars. Both of their wrestling styles mash up really well together.
In my opinion, Gargano and Ciampa are the biggest threats to the Revival right now, those two are on a hot streak right now. Both of them were showcased in the cruiserweight classic when the both of them faced each other (which Gargano won), so the both of them want to keep the hot streak going.
If there was any better time to capitalize on the success of the amazing match Gargano and Ciampa had at the classic, it would be right now by having them win the tag team titles. The Revival have been amazing champs, but the company needs to capitalize on Gargano and Ciampa right now. So my pick to win this match is Gargano and Ciampa
Asuka (C) vs Bayley For the NXT Women’s Championship
This is a match that everyone has been waiting to see ever since Asuka took the title from Bayley at NXT Takeover Dallas. Ever since becoming champion Asuka has been impressive, big part of that is because of her style of wrestling.
The style of wrestling that Asuka uses is hard hitting. It is called Strong Style, which is known to be used in Japanese wrestling. Strong Style is a style of wrestling where they use a lot of strikes with the legs and hands in their offense. Asuka uses that style of wrestling really effectively during her time in NXT.
Before losing the NXT Women’s Title to Asuka at NXT Takeover Dallas, Bayley was the leader of the women’s division in NXT while she was champion. Bayley uses technical wrestling in her matches to her advantage.
All I can say is this match will be amazing. It will make no sense for Bayley to win the title again, since she will be moving up to the main roster full time within the next few months. Asuka also needs to carry the division down in NXT, so my pick to win this match is Asuka.
Samoa Joe (C) vs Shinsuke Nakamura For The NXT Championship.
Debuting last year after Kevin Owens won the NXT Championship off Sami Zayn, Samoa Joe has been a dominating force in the NXT Roster taking out everyone in his path on his way to winning the NXT Championship from Finn Balor at a house show.
Ever since arriving at NXT, Joe has made himself a household name. A big part of that is due to the fact that so many wrestling fans knew who he was from his time in TNA and ROH. Joe is a powerhouse who likes to use the size and strength to his advantage in his matches. He is not scared to go for high risk and go technical during his matches.
Debuting at NXT Takeover Dallas, Nakamura had made a name for himself all around the world and in NXT ever since he arrived.
Nakamura is known all around the world for his work in Japan mostly in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Just like Asuka, Nakamura uses Strong Style a lot in his matches to his advantage. His strikes are really lethal and can take a lot of damage out of the guy he is facing in the ring.
This match is a tough one to call, both superstars are great so the company has two options here. One option is to let Joe continue his reign as champion since he has been doing a great job as champion. Another option is, if the company thinks Nakamura is ready to Takeover (pun intended) and become the top guy in NXT, have him beat Joe and win the NXT title. The guy that loses tonight will most likely be called up within the next few months, so this is hard to pick but I have to go with Shinsuke Nakamura to win. Do not be surprised if Joe retains the title, though.
