After his win over Anthony Crolla, WBA Super World and WBO Lightweight Champion Vasiliy Lomachenko now holds wins over Crolla, Jose Pedraza, Jorge Linares and Guillermo Rigondeaux. Here are four potential opponents for Lomachenko in his near future.
4: Mikey Garcia
After Mikey Garcia lost to Errol Spence Jr, many expect his next bout to either be a rematch or a contender fight. Prior to the loss, Garcia had defeated the likes of Thomas Villa, Matt Remillard, and Sergey Lipinets.
Garcia would be a test for Lomachenko, as their styles match up well against one another. He is always looking to make history, and the expectations for this fight would be through the roof.
3: Errol Spence Jr
Errol Spence Jr is the reigning and defending IBF Welterweight Champion with an undefeated record of 25-0.
Lomachenko most likely have to go up to Welterweight to take on Spence Jr, but it wouldn’t be seen as a negative. Spence Jr defeating Garcia could be used as an example of what he is capable of for the future.
2: Leo Santa Cruz
After a run in the Bantamweight division, followed up by winning the WBO Super Bantamweight title, Leo Santa Cruz jumped up a weight class to secure the WBA Super Featherweight title. After his first loss as champion against Carl Frampton, Santa Cruz came back to win in their rematch.
A lightweight such as Santa Cruz has an advantage over Lomachenko, who would enjoy attempting to overcome the odds.
1: Gervonta Davis
Gervonta Davis has been labelled by Floyd Mayweather Jr as the future of boxing, and he would emerge as the ideal matchup to go against Lomachenko. The run for Davis includes a reign at the Super Featherweight division, with a record of 21-0.
If promoted correctly, this could be the fight that boxing fanatics drool over. A bout between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis is one that fans should keep their eyes on.
