Nazem Kadri suspended four games

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri has been suspended for four games by the NHL following a cross check Kadri dished out to Detroit Red Wings forward Luke Glenndening on Saturday.

Kadri will forfeit $200,000 of his salary as he’s considered a repeat offender. The Maple Leafs only have four games remaining in the season and will not be going to the playoffs, so Kadri’s season is over. He finishes with 17 goals, 28 assists, and 45 points.

At the 7:23 mark in the second period in the game at the Air Canada Centre, Kadri retaliated after Glendening knocked his helmet off. That’s when Kadri threw a cross check that briefly left Glendening laying on the ice. Kadri was assessed a two minute minor penalty.

“You’ve got to command your fair share of the ice if you’re going to play hard,” coach Mike Babcock said, who initially thought Kadri went for the arm and the stick rode up on him.

“You can’t cross-check people in the head. You’re allowed to cross-check them in the meat of the arm though.”
