Derek Fisher Fired by Knicks
On Monday, the New York Knicks decided to fire head coach Derek Fisher after his second year. The team lost its fifth straight game, as well as nine of the past ten.
The Knicks sit at 23-31 this season, and even were in talks about potential playoff candidates earlier. Last season, the team went 17-65 in Fisher’s first season of coaching.
This is a surprising move considering the history that Fisher and team owner Phil Jackson have. Jackson and Fisher are known for their relationship back with the Lakers, in which they won five championships together.
The Knicks currently sit in 12th in the Eastern Conference. With that being said, the chances that they turn things around and make playoffs are very slim.
Assistant Kurt Rambis will fill in as the interim head coach. Rambis only has experiance coaching the Timberwolves to a 56-145 record from 2009-11.
The team will now move forward without Fisher, as Phil Jackson once again makes a move that no one expected.
