Cincinnati Using Franchise Tag on AJ Green

On February 25th, Joe Burrow stated that if he were to be picked by the Bengals that he would want to have AJ Green on the roster. It would now seem that Burrow will get his wish, with Cincinnati placing the franchise tag on AJ Green if a deal is not reached, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Green, the fourth pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, had six touchdowns for nearly 700 yards last season before the injury bug cut his season short. The Bengals number one receiver has been a consistent performer over the years at Cincinnati, and would thrive with Burrow behind center.

Green said in January that while the tag would not be the ideal thing, he would not turn down the payday that would come with it. Green has also previously stated that he wants to be within the Bengals organization for his whole career.

It will be interesting to see how this develops, as Green continues to ply his trade with the Bengals. With Tyler Boyd and Joe Mixon in the backfield, the Bengals are really only one or two pieces away from a big rebound season. Green coming back may be one of those pieces.
