Royals Ventura Passes Away in Accident

As of Sunday, it has been reported that Kansas City Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura has passed away during a car accident, which took place in the Dominican Republic. Ventura was 25 when the incident took place.
In 2008, the Royals took a shot on Ventura as a free agent, and was eventually called up in September of 2013. The young man was a part of the Royals postseason run in 2014, as well as their World Series run in 2015.
In four MLB seasons, Ventura finished with a record of 38-31 with a 3.89 ERA. The Royals eventually signed Ventura to a 5-year extension worth $23 million in December of 2015. Royals general manager Dayton Moore had this to say:
“Our prayers right now are with Yordano’s family as we mourn this young man’s passing,” Royals general manager Dayton Moore said in a statement Sunday. “He was so young and so talented, full of youthful exuberance and always brought a smile to everyone he interacted with. We will get through this as an organization, but right now is a time to mourn and celebrate the life of Yordano”.
