According to New Orleans Pelicans General Manager David Griffin, forward Zion Williamson underwent foot surgery to recover from a fractured right foot over the offseason. According to the team, Williamson is expected to be ready by the start of the 2021-22 regular season.

Griffin noted that Williamson suffered the injury during a workout over the summer before Summer League.

Williamson enjoyed a promising sophomore season, averaging 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. While he achieved individual success, the Pelicans missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season; finishing last year with a 31-41 record. Under first-year head coach Willie Green, New Orleans is hoping to rise as contenders in the Western Conference.
