Since being called up by the New York Mets in 2013, Zack Wheeler has become a solid starting pitcher. Fast forward to 2019, and Wheeler has become a hot commodity in free agency. On Wednesday, Philadelphia signed Wheeler to a 5-year, $118 M deal.
In 31 starts last season, Wheeler recorded a record of 11-5, 195 strikeouts, 1.26 WHIP and an ERA of 3.96.
With Wheeler’s payday, his expectations as a potential ace have skyrocketed. The Phillies already have pitchers like Aaron Nola, Jake Arrieta, and Zach Eflin.
