Yankees Trade Murphy to Twins for Hicks
The New York Yankees have acquired outfielder Aaron Hicks from the Minnesota Twins for catcher John Ryan Murphy. This trade is the first big trade since the Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners struck on a six player deal.
In 2015, Hicks batted 256/.323/.398 batting line and swiped 13 bags. He has a lot of upside and it’s a bit of a surprise to see him moved, which Torii Hunter now retired. Hicks moves into an outfield that already has a few questions, especially with the Brett Gardner to Seattle rumors.
Murphy being dealt makes sense for the Yanks. They have slugging catcher Gary Sanchez. Murphy was a reliable backup last year, with 43 hits in 67 games. He goes to Minnesota where he could backup for Kurt Suzuki now and possibly overtake him if progresses.
