According to the New York Times, the New York Yankees have hired Rachel Balkovec as their hitting coach. Balkovec is believed to be the first hired full-time instructor in MLB history.

Balkovec will serve as a roving minor league instructor, and will report on February 1st in Tampa, Florida.

For some, Balkovec may be a familiar name. She was the first female to be hired as a full-time strength and conditioning coordinator when the St Louis Cardinals hired her during the 2014-15 season. In 2016, Balkovec learned Spanish in order to work for the Houston Astros as their Latin American strength and conditioning coordinator.

In 2015, Justine Siegal was the first female coach in MLB history, joining the Oakland A’s as a guest instructor for fall instructional league.
