WWE Legend Chyna Dead at 45
Former Pro Wrestler Joanie “Chyna” Laurer was found dead in her home. She was 45 years old.
Her official Twitter and Facebook accounts confirmed the news:
“It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her.”
She has recently been discovered to be on medication for both anxiety and sleep deprivation, which may or may not be a factor in the tragic loss. Her death is unclear at this time but it is a true tragedy. Chyna was known for her unique physique and being the first woman to enter the WWE’s Royal Rumble match as well as the first and only woman to this date to be the WWE Intercontinental Champion. She cemented her legacy in the industry and set the bar for the future women of pro wrestling.
In the late 1990’s, Chyna came into the sport just in time to revive it. She wound up winning the Rookie Of The Year honors for the PGWA back in 1996. Her first major appearance onto a larger set stage was when she appeared on the show as the bodyguard of superstar wrestler Triple H.
There is no final word on what truly was the cause of death for this female inspiration, but she will wind up going down as one of the best female performers the sport has seen. Not only was she a wrestler, but Chyna appeared on many magazine covers, evolving as a superstar.
