On Thursday, it was reported that former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is coming out of retirement. This news comes from multiple sources, including ESPN’s Adam Shefter.

Witten was previously part of the ESPN broadcasting booth, where he served as a color analyst on Monday Night Football for the 2018 season. It is said that Witten will be given a one-year, $3.5M deal for the 2019 season.

During the 2017 season, Witten totaled 560 receiving yards, his lowest since his rookie year in 2003. The 36-year old has not missed a game in his last 11 seasons of action.

Last season, the Cowboys struggled to get their tight ends involved throughout the season. Blake Jarwin was the leading tight end with 307 yards and 3 TD on 27 receptions.

According to Schefter, there are members in the Dallas organization that believe Witten is a valued future head coaching candidate. With his signing, could the veteran be considered for a future position in the NFL?
