Will Roman Reigns Get the Crowd On His Side?

Starting from The Shield’s split in mid 2014, everyone in the group has changed.

Well, everyone except Roman Reigns. He has kept the same look, same moves, and even the same promos. When The Shield split, Seth Rollins joined The Authority and turned heel, while Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns stayed as faces and feuded with Rollins and The Authority.

While going into back and forth battles with The Authority, Ambrose got 90% of the crowd behind him, while Roman Reigns only had 40% of the crowd behind him throughout the 2014 Summer until suffering a Hernia injury at September’s Night of Champions. He was out to December’s Tables, Ladders, Chairs and Stairs event where he returned helping John Cena defeat long time friend turned enemy Seth Rollins in a Tables Match.

Roman Reigns would declare himself the next Royal Rumble winner and from then on getting boos from before, during, and after winning the 2015 Royal Rumble, despite interference from The Authority’s Kane and The Big Show. It’s crazy right? He’d win after a surprise appearance from his Cousin, WWE Hall of Famer Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. However, Roman Reigns would get crazy heat. More crazy than when Hulk Hogan turned heel at WCW’s Bash at the Beach in 1996.

The differences between Roman Reigns and Hulk Hogan is Hogan was meant to be hated cause he turned heel, while Roman Reigns is still the face. Roman Reigns went through two Wrestlemania events and has main evented both. At Wrestlemania 31 he lost his match to Brock Lesnar, but to Seth Rollins, who cashed in his Money in the Bank and pinned Roman to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and would suffer the same consequences after winning in a tournament the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, defeating Dean Ambrose only to lose it minutes later to then Money in the Bank winner, Sheamus; however, Roman would be able to win it back despite interference from Sheamus’ League of Nations and Chairman, Vince McMahon.

Roman Reigns reign as WWE World Heavyweight Champion would be short lived after being forced into a 30 man Royal Rumble match for his WWE World Heavyweight Championship which he would lose to the 30th entrant and eventual winner Triple H. Roman Reigns would go on and defeat BrockLesnar and Dean Ambrose in a Triple Threat match at 2016’s Fast Lane which was heavily criticized from the way he was made to act and would get the same treatment after defeating and winning back the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Triple H which was overshadowed with boos from the WWE Universe at Wrestlemania 32 this year. However, Roman Reigns would again have a short lived reign with only defending it successfully twice against AJ Styles’ at Payback and Extreme Rules only to lose it to Seth Rollins at Money in the bank who would also lose it to Dean Ambrose, who won the Money In The Bank Ladder match earlier that night due to Roman Reigns violating and getting his first suspension on WWE’s Wellness Policy, Reigns would receive but lose at Battleground the next month to Dean Ambrose which involved Seth Rollins’ for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

After WWE announced the brand split, Roman Reigns would be drafted to Raw and try for the newly announced WWE Universal Championship by winning a Fatal 4 Way but losing later on to NXT call up Finn Balor. While being out the WWE Universal Championship picture he would enter the WWE United States Championship picture against Rusev which ended in a no contest at last months Summerslam but will finally be contested live tonight.

In my opinion, Roman Reigns gimmick as The Guy should be made into a Tweener and he should not team or associate with anyone on the Raw brand, Roman Reigns needs to be a loner and do everything by himself, If he can do that then it would put him in a place where he only sides with himself and by defeating receive this Sunday it could build him up to being The Guy and possibly getting the crowd on his side once and for all.

The WWE Clash of Champions is live tonight on the WWE Network at 8PM Eastern, 5PM Pacific where you can witness Roman Reigns win the WWE United States Championship and possibly win the crowd over or lose to Rusev and his shot at getting back on the right road.
