Why D Rose Is Worth D Risk For Knicks

Rumors have emerged about the New York Knicks being interested in trading for Derrick Rose. I’ve seen a lot of mixed reactions form different reactions from different fans for a multitude of reasons.

Of course, the main concern would be the injury concerns that have haunted Rose since his MVP season when he was one of the most premier point guards in the league. Aside from injury concerns, fans are concerned about his annual payment of about $20 million that the Knicks would have to cough up to pay Rose. Well, I have come of a different mindset. I think Derrick Rose could potentially be GOLD for the Knicks.

First of all, let’s address the money issue. The money that the Knicks would cough up wouldn’t be the very worst thing for the team. The Knicks have just $10 million in cap space to spend in the free agency and let’s face it. Unless the Knicks are going to clear up space to sign Kevin Durant, then I don’t think it’s a problem.

Not to mention, if Derrick Rose doesn’t work out for the Knicks, his contract expires after the upcoming season and he would off the books for the Knicks to do some work in the next offseason.

Now, we move on the bigger issue: the injury issues that Rose has had for the past couple of years. Rose was actually able to play 66 games last season. Which is still under the regular 82, but it is the most games he has played since 2010-2011 season when he won the MVP award.

This could be a sign that Rose is finally getting back to what he once was. Not to mention, there’s a good chance that Rose could benefit from a change of scenery.

Derrick Rose is certainly worth a shot in my opinion, as if he can revive his career, the Knicks could have a shot at making the playoffs. Worst case scenario, Rose leaves next season after being a bust, and we move on.
