What’s Next for Ngannou and Velasquez?

The first ever UFC fight card for ESPN ended shortly when in a shocking 26-seconds, returning former Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was stopped by Francis Ngannou to spoil the return.

While everyone is already looking towards the future with how the night had ended, the UFC now contains options moving forward in regards to Ngannou and Velasquez.

Some had saw this as a title elimination fight for the reigning champion, Daniel Cormer, who would immediately shake his head at the thought of fighting Velasquez.

Velasquez was never going to fight Cormier, as they both made it clear their “brotherhood” stands as a priority between them. Cormier is looking forward to a fight with Lesnar that could generate revenue. On the other hand, pending injury, Velasquez is likely to face off against Derrick Lewis, Stipe Miocic, Allistair Overeem or Curtis Blaydes.

The question on everyone’s mind is who Francis Ngannou should fight next. He may receive another title opportunity or could foresee a rematch with Miocic; the one who gave Ngannou his first loss in the UFC.

The UFC should try and book a rematch between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou. However, if Ngannou falls to the injury bug, Dana White can book a potential super fight between Velasquez and Miocic.

The aftermath of this fight could still benefit those not in it, and with Ngannou looking for another title opportunity, we could very well see a Velasquez and Miocic fight take place.
