Wayne Taking a Physical in New England
Reggie Wayne arrived in New England on Saturday night and will be taking a physical on Sunday.
The 36-year old Wayne is a 6-Time Pro Bowler.
Last year, Wayne became the ninth receiver in NFL history to record 14,000 yards in his career. The Patriots are looking to add depth, but it is unclear to what role he would have in the offense.
The former Miami Hurricanes standout had 64 rec, with 779 yards and 2 TDs in 15 total games last year. Near the end of the season, it was revealed that the 14-year Vet had been playing with a torn tricep since week 6. He eventually would need offseason surgery to repair the tear. In the offseason the Colts announced that they would not resign Wayne and made him a free agent on March 15th.
The Panthers, who had lost Kelvin Benjamin earlier this week to a Torn ACL, were rumored to possibly have interest in Wayne, but have yet to contact him. In New England, Wayne can provide a solid addition to the WR core.
He has good hands and is an excellent route runner. He might not be as fast and athletic as he once was, but he can still make plays even if its in a limited role.
We don’t know how serious the Patriots are in signing Wayne. There has to be some mutual interest between both parties. With Brady in court and a possible suspension looming, Jimmy Garoppolo is set to take over the driver seat for a few games if the court rules in the NFL’s favor. This possible addition could help the young Quarterback as he starts the season.
