The Washington Capitals have signed Forward Mike Richards to a one year, $1 Million pro-rated contract, the team announced. The 30-year old Richards has 482 points (179 goals, 303 assists) in 710 career games with the Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings.

This will give him a fresh start. He had a rocky road in Los Angeles. He lasted played in the NHL with the Kings in April 2015. Capitals GM Brian MacLellan said that he first targeted Richards at the end of the Summer and the team has kept track of him for the past few months.

I would expect him to play on the second or third line. He’s not a first line player anymore. I believe that he can thrive in Washington with the playmakers they have in place. Only time will tell with this deal.
