According to ESPNs Adam Schefter, veteran defensive back Walter Thurmond has decided to hang it up and retire from the NFL. Thurmond played six years in the league, spending most of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles (played with the Giants and Seahawks as well).

The speculation was that Thurmond was not going to retire after this year after his stats took quite the jump last season. Just last year, Thurmond recorded 3 of his 4 total interceptions, along with 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

Thurmond spent most of his career as a corner back, but slid over to safety in 2015. It’s a shock that at the age of 28, Thurmond is deciding to walk away from the game.

Reports insist that Thurmond was offered multiple deals by more than one franchise, but still rejected all offers given.
