The Winter Meetings are here, that means trades and moves are bound to happened. One team to watch during the next few days is Boston Red Sox, who are going to be looking to make moves. The team made their first move of the meetings sending Wade Miley and Jonathan Aro to Seattle Mariners for Carson Smith and Roenis Elias.

This season in 32 starts, Miley had a record of 11-11, 4.46 ERA,  147 strikeouts, with a WHIP of 1.37. In a losing season, Miley had a average season. He had double digit wins with over 100 strikeouts, but his ERA could be a lot better. Besides that stat, Miley had a solid season in his first season with Red Sox after the team acquired him last offseason from Arizona.

Smith was putting up good numbers in 70 games played, with 13 saves, 2.31 ERA. 92 strikeouts, with an 1.01 WHIP. In a disappointing season for Mariners, Smith was a bright spot in the bullpen. Even though he had his struggles during the season, Smith was in his first full season in the majors so producing numbers like that for your first full season is impressive.

Red Sox getting a steal here in Smith, with how he played last year before getting traded. Smith was projected as the Mariners closer this upcoming season before this move. The team gets a good young bullpen arm in Smith, who will be able to dominate in relief innings. Smith is a good pitcher who has good control on his pitches. Getting Elias, who is a young starting pitcher, is a good deal for the team. Even though the team is trying to win now, the team is getting young talent that can help them in the future in this trade.

Mariners are getting a solid starter in Miley, who can help out the starting rotation after the team lost Hisashi Iwakuma who signed a three year deal with Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday. Miley will be slotted into the number two or three spot in the rotation, becoming a good depth pitcher in the rotation. Miley can still be a dominating pitcher, who can throw over 100 strikeouts with double digit wins a season  Aro is a good young player that the team could add to the prospect pool.

Boston Red Sox wins this deal by a long shot, getting rid of Miley for Smith is a steal itself. Since Smith is a young promising relief pitcher, who has a lot of upside. Miley is more proven now, but the team could of given up a lot more less for Miley. Since Miley is really not worth what the team gave up. Mariners  overpaid for Miley. It does not hurt that Red Sox also get a good young starting pitcher in the deal.  Mariners did get a good pitcher for depth, but it was not worth what the team gave up. Even though the team got a young player in return in Aro.
