Since being out with a nagging calf injury, New York Giants Wide Receiver Victor Cruz tries everything to rehab the calf. Today Cruz opted for surgery, to fix the nagging calf problems shutting him down for the rest of the season. Cruz has not played in a game since week six of last season, when he injured his calf in a loss vs Philadelphia Eagles.
In six games last season Cruz had 23 receptions, for 337 yards and a touchdown. Before getting injured, Cruz was already off to a bad start to the season. Someone with Cruz skillset, should have more then 5 touchdowns heading into week six. After having breakout seasons in 2011 and 2012, where Cruz had over 1000 receiving yards and more then six touchdowns. Cruz would not pass the 1000 receiving mark, along with getting only five touchdowns since then. Injuries is a big part of why Cruz has not been himself the past three seasons.
Even though Cruz has been the same receiver that he was, Cruz is still a good receiver with good upside. When healthy, Cruz can burn the secondary with his great speed, he also has god hands as well. Cruz has the potential to become a franchise wide receiver, making a difference every time he steps on the field. With Odell Beckham Jr now on the team. Once Cruz returns, he will most likely be the second option for quarterback Eli Manning. Cruz can put up 1000 receiving yards with 6 or more touchdowns when healthy.
Opting for surgery is the right move for Cruz right now, he tried to rehab it but it did not work. Getting surgery now will be best for the long term, fixing the problem before it gets worse. The thing that is going to be important here is, if Cruz can come back at 100 percent rehabbing from the injury. Being the dominating playmaker he once was. Himself paired with Beckham Jr at receiver, would be a dominating one-two combination. If he can come back healthy with no setbacks.
