After defeating England in the semifinals, the United States Women’s team was determined to win their second consecutive World Cup. The 2-0 victory over Netherlands marks their fourth title in team history. While the team defended the title, they also made history by scoring 26 goals; the most in World Cup history.

The United States became the first team since Germany in 2003 and 2007 to win the Women’s World Cup in back-to-back opportunities. This campaign to repeat as champions was difficult for the United States , but they accomplished it with Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe leading the charge.
