Aldo is coming off a win against Jeremy Stephens from July, who had been making claims that he was the next title contender. The finish came in the first round by way of knockout. This put the former champion back in the discussion on whether he would fight for the title again. With this potential fight, it may be a title elimination fight for Aldo and Moicano.
As for Moicano, he is coming off a win over Cub Swanson in August at UFC 227, who was in talks of fighting Aldo in 2019. The victory came in the first round via submission. Based on Swanson’s latest defeat, this is the next fight to make.
The card is currently scheduled for February 2nd, and if both men agree to it, the winner may receive their title shot opportunity against Max Holloway. Aldo has failed twice against Holloway, while Moicano has yet to see Holloway in the octagon.
