On Thursday, it was reported that the UFC signed Cage Warriors Champion Modestas Bukauskas to a contract. The Lithuanian fighter has made his living off the Lightweight division.
With a career record of 9-2, Bukauskas is currently riding a six-fight win streak. In June of 2019, he defeated Marthin Hamlet for the Cage Warriors Lightweight title.
In his career, Bukauskas has only won via decision on one occasion. That came in May of 2015, where he won unanimously over Arvydas Juska.
Arguably, the UFC Lightweight division is the most competitive to date. With a champion in Khabib Nurmagomedov, other contenders include Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, and Conor McGregor.
In November, Cage Warriors president Graham Boylan noted the following regarding Bukauskas:
“The light heavyweight division in Europe; there’s not a lot to choose from or to pick. So, I’d like to see him go, if he doesn’t want to go we’ll find something for him in London. But I do believe that he’s earned his shot in his last three or four performances.”
