As the NBA playoffs get close, teams such as the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland  Cavs appear as the favorites in each conference. With that being said, it is important to realize that there are plenty of other teams within contention. Here is one team within each conference that will be able to contend in the 2016 playoffs:

Eastern Underdog: Boston Celtics

Winning 7 of their last 10 games, the Boston Celtics have viewed as the underdog throughout the entire regular season. With Brad Stevens as the head coach, many speculated that this roster had virtually no shot at a playoff run.

Isaiah Thomas has been unstoppable, looking like his vintage self this year. Averaging 21.6 points this regular season and just under 7 assists, a veteran like Thomas is bringing the Celtics together like no team in recent memory.

The Celtics aren’t the most talanted team in the NBA, not even in their conference, but just about any playoff team is capable of winning when it comes to the playoffs.

Western Underdog: Memphis Grizzlies:

Currently sitting as the fifth seed in the West, the Memphis Grizzlies are defiantly an underdog this year. With that being said, they are very underrated.

Most people take Mike Conley for granted, yet he is 100% a top 10 point guard in today’s game. Averaging 15.2 PPG, Conley could match up with just about any point guard in the West once the post season comes up.

The only obstacle will be Marc Gasol’s absence, since he is out for the remainder of the year. Zach Randolph will more than likely fill that void, making the Grizzlies an instant threat.
