Troy’s Neal Brown Hired at West Virginia

The West Virginia Mountaineers have their new coach.
Neal Brown, who has led Troy to 3 consecutive 10-win seasons, including victories over LSU and Nebraska, has been brought in to replace Dana Holgorsen at West Virginia. Brown, 38, has also worked as an offensive coordinator under Tommy Tuberville and Mark Stoops. His name had been mentioned for other Power 5 jobs, namely Louisville and Kansas State, but he ends up in West Virginia, fortunately for them.

Before Brown became the head coach in 2014, Troy had never won more than 9 games in a season. They finished 4-8 in his first season, then 31-8 in the three seasons following, winning all three bowl games they played in.
Brown should also have experience with the type of offense the Mountaineers want to run. He played under air raid gurus Hal Mumme and Mike Leach at Kentucky, and his offenses at Troy weren’t too far off from what West Virginia looked like.
We currently don’t know which members of the Mountaineers coaching staff will be retained.
