Trevor Siemian Named Denver Broncos Starting Quarterback

After a long offseason of speculation of Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch who are both competing to see who would start week 1, it turns out that the neither of them will be starting week 1. The Denver Broncos announced today that quarterback Trevor Siemian will be starting week 1 against the Carolina Panthers, This will be the first time a defending Super Bowl Champion will be starting a quarterback in a season opener who has thrown 0 passes in the regular season.

In his three preseason games, Siemian has thrown for 285 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions while completing 27 out of 43 passes this preseason. Siemian did not have the greatest preseason, but he impressed head coach Gary Kubiak in the past preseason game to give him the starting job.

Since Siemian never threw an NFL regular season pass, it is hard to tell how good of a quarterback he is in the regular season. In all the preseason games and offseason snaps he has taken this offseason, he has showcased that he can be a solid quarterback in the Broncos offensive system.

Out of all 3 quarterbacks, the team made the smart choice by naming Siemian the starting quarterback. The Broncos have a great defense, good running game, and a good wide receiving core so the team does not need Siemian to do all the work. The team just  needs him to drive the offense down the field, and not turn the ball over. With the way he has been playing this preseason, Siemian should have no problem doing that at all.

On the Siemian side of things, he outperformed both  Sanchez and Lynch to win the starting quarterback job. Siemian has to perform the same way he did this preseason in the regular season. He does not have a lot of pressure since he has C. J. Anderson, Emmanuel Sanders, Ronnie Hillman, and Demaryius Thomas to work with on offense.

Now that Siemian is named starting quarterback, the question on everyone’s mind is who will be his backup  between  Sanchez and  Lynch? It is simple really, the logical answer is Lynch who the team drafted and is hoping is the long term answer at Quarterback.

Sanchez has not been looking good in the preseason games, and there are talks that the team might even cut him so Sanchez time in Denver might be coming to an end and soon.
