Tom Coughlin Out As New York Giants Head Coach

After days of rumors and reports that New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was going to step down as team head coach, today it became official. Coughlin has informed the team staff, after a meeting today that he was stepping down as Head Coach, ending his 12 year tenure as team head coach.

Coughlin has a record of 102-90 in NY. He’s made the playoffs five times during his tenure in 05, 06, 07, 08 and 11, winning the Super Bowl twice in 07 and 11. The Giants have missed the playoffs for the past four straight seasons.

Those last four seasons have been the worse for Coughlin. Missing the playoffs all four seasons, finishing 9-7 or worse and finishing the last three seasons with losing records.

It was time for a change in New York. The team still has a good defense quarterback and wide receiving core. With the right coach, the team will be back on track next season.

For Coughlin, it was time for him to move on from the team. It is better that he moves on now, before it the situation gets worse with the team. Expect Coughlin to get some interest in some head coaching job openings around the league this offseason.
