Todd Frazier Could be Moved by Trade Deadline

The Chicago White Sox, who have seen their season go in two different directions this year, are opening to selling off their roster. A report from the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo says that slugging infielder Todd Frazier is one of those pieces who could be on his way out.

Frazier is one of the top power hitters in the game. He is second in the MLB in HRs with 28. He also has a pretty reasonable salary at $7.5M. League interest may be high, so it’s a smart move that the Sox are deciding to shop him.

Another thing that may interest teams is his versatility. Frazier can play left and right field, as well as first and third base. This allows teams who don’t necessarily need an upgrade at third to acquire him for their outfield or the other corner infield spot.

I look at a team like the Toronto Blue Jays as someone who might be interested in Frazier. Toronto needs an upgrade over Justin Smoak and could package something together to make that happen. Toronto could also put him either in the outfield or at DH and have either Edwin Encarnacion or Jose Bautista transition over to 1B.
