Titans Finalize Contracts with 6 Rookies, Derrick Henry Among Names

On Monday, May 9th, the Tennessee Titans finalized rookie contracts with 6 of 10 draft picks from this year’s draft. The names headlining the picks that signed are 2nd round picks Austin Johnson (defensive lineman, Penn State) and Derrick Henry (Running Back, Alabama). Among those 2 are receiver Tajae Sharpe (5th round, 140thoverall), CB LeShaun Sims (5th round, 157th overall), LB Aaron Wallace (7th round, 222nd overall) and CB Kalan Reed (7th round, 253rd overall). However, it may be concerning to some that 1st round pick Jack Conklin hasn’t signed a deal. This shouldn’t worry these people, however, considering it takes a month or two before all rookies sign their contracts.
All rookies (drafted and signed, drafted and yet to sign, and undrafted free agents) are all going to report to Rookie Training Camp that starts this Friday. However , rookies were at Saint Thomas Sports Park this morning to start the overall off-season training program. Today was just for rookies to get physicals, talk contracts, sign contracts, etc.
Derrick Henry is right now expected to share the workload with veteran running back Demarco Murray. Henry at Alabama was breaking records left and right as he had 2,219 rushing yards along with 28 TD’s to lead Alabama another national title.
Austin Johnson didn’t have a bad season either. Johnson racked up 154 total tackles, 24 for a loss in 3 seasons at Penn Sate. In 2015 Johnson would have 78 tackles, 15 which would be for a loss, along with 6.5 tackles. It is unknown if Johnson will see a starting position on the line. Even if he doesn’t start he will add great depth off the bench for a Titans D-Line that struggled to find the QB last season.
