The Detroit Tigers were determined to add two starting pitchers in free agency. On Sunday, the added one of the desired two. They have agreed to sign Jordan Zimmermann to a five year deal in the $110 Million range.

Zimmerman, 29, has spent his entire seven year career with the Washington Nationals. He has gone 70-50, with a 3.32 ERA and 903 strikeouts in those seven seasons. He went 13-10 with a 3.66 ERA and 164 strikeouts in 2015, a disappointing season for the Nationals all around.

There is cause for concern if you look at Zimm’s numbers vs. the American League. He is 3-2 with a lofty 4.91 ERA and 22 strikeouts against the Junior Circuit. However, I believe that Zimmermann will adapt nicely. He’s going to a team that has some established players like future hall of famer Miguel Cabrera, and up and comers like James McCann. J.D Martinez is also someone who should be mentioned. He was the MVP of the Tigers last year, hitting 38 homers and 102 RBI.

This is a great signing. The Tigers were hurting after trading David Price to Toronto. Now, the rotation of Zimmermann, Justin Verlander, Daniel Norris, Anibal Sanchez, and probably another free agent starter looks like a rotation that should win and win big.
