Three Stars of College Football: Week 10

1) Holton Ahlers, QB, East Carolina

32/52, 535 Yds, 5 TD(1 Rush), INT

While his Pirates couldn’t upset the 17th ranked Cincinnati Bearcats, falling in a 46-43 game, Ahlers set a school record with 535 passing yards, and tied his career-high with four touchdown passes while also rushing for a score. He became the first ECU quarterback to have a 500-yard passing game. 12 of his completions and 283 of his yards went to receiver CJ Johnson, who also set a school record for receiving yards, and has the highest single-game yardage total in the FBS so far this season. East Carolina hasn’t defeated a ranked opponent since 2014, but they’ll have another chance next week when they travel to face #23 SMU.

2) AJ Dillon, RB, Boston College

35 Att, 242 Yds, 3 TD

Boston College set a school record with 691 offensive yards in their 58-27 win over Syracuse, 496 of those coming on the ground, and AJ Dillon provided most of those. Dillon and teammate David Bailey combined for 414 rushing yards and five touchdowns as the Eagles sent Syracuse to their fourth straight loss. The nation’s second-leading rusher, Dillon had his best game of the season and will look to continue his momentum next week against a Florida State team that recently fired Head Coach Willie Taggart.

3) Mason Fine, QB, North Texas

24/39, 332 Yds, 7 TD

One of the more underrated quarterbacks in the nation, Fine had himself a day on Saturday. He threw touchdowns on three of his first four completions, and five in the first half on his way to a career-high seven touchdown passes. Fine also surpassed 12,000 career passing yards in the 52-26 victory against UTEP. But Fine’s best moment may have been after the game during the press conference when he answered questions in a dinosaur costume, while teammates acted like it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. The Mean Green face 7-1 C-USA opponent Louisiana Tech next week.
