As reported on Tuesday, the Indianapolis Colts and running back Marlon Mack have agreed to seek out a trade for the 25-year old. Mack is coming off of an Achilles injury suffered in Week 1 of the 2020 season. With the offense surrounding its focus in the run game on Johnathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines, Mack has been left behind in the committee. Here, we discuss possible landing spots for Mack:
3. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers appear to be an obvious landing spot for Mack, as the offense is currently lingering with injuries. Through Week 3 of the regular season, San Francisco has lost Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, Elijah Mitchell, and JaMycal Hasty to injury to a certain degree. Mack has an affordable one-year contract and could be an immediate asset to the 49ers backfield.
2. Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons aren’t getting the production they would like out of Mike Davis to this point, as he’s been getting outproduced by Cordarrelle Patterson. The Falcons rank 28th in rushing offense thus far. Atlanta could use all the depth in the backfield they can get, leaving Mack in a potential featured role in the offense as part of a committee.
1. Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins are another team that utilizes their running backs in a committee fashion, but Myles Gaskin has had a slower start than expected to the year. Miami also ranks I’m the bottom half of the league in rushing at 23rd. We can’t forget Mack’s last healthy season in which he rushed for 1,091 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019. The roster contains Malcolm Brown, but Mack would be an upgrade in depth.
