With a talented middleweight division, the UFC had originally booked the main event to being Ronaldo Souza in a rematch against Yoel Romero at UFC in Fort Lauderdale, Romero had won the first encounter.
Due to Romero pulling out because he had an illness, the UFC had looked for a replacement and found one on a month’s notice in Jack Hermansson, who had just defeated David Branch in a short fight.
With wins over the likes of Chris Weidman, Vitor Belfort, Derek Brunson twice, current Bellator Middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi, Robbie Lawler, Tim Kennedy and Jason Miller, Souza showed just how dangerous he is and with everything to lose for a shot at the UFC Middleweight title. This was the fight of his life.
On a night of MMA action from the UFC, Hermansson and Souza delivered in a fight that could change your entire life and after five 5-minute rounds, the Joker silenced Souza by unanimous decision and will be fighting for the Middleweight championship in the near future.
Hermansson must wait until Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and interim champion Israel Adesanya battle soon for the undisputed title.
This will give Hermansson a lot of time to study both men and allows him to stay healthy for when the time comes to face off against either man who wins the undisputed Middleweight champion between Whittaker and Adesanya.
