The Future For The Chicago Bulls

On Sunday night, the Chicago Bulls were eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since the 2008 season. Behind Fred Hoiberg as the head coach, the fans in Chicago couldn’t have expected much to come from this season.

What stands in the future for the Bulls Nation? There were many takeaways on what went well and what didn’t. Here’s what I took away from this past season:

What Went Well?

Say all you want about Derrick Rose, but the last time the Bulls received a lottery pick in the NBA Draft, that’s who they selected. I would look for the Bulls to receive a draft pick on the lower end of the lottery this year, but this is a very talanted draft class, so they will have multiple options.

On another note, it’s important to note that Fred Hoiberg is new to the coaching experiance. With time comes success, and I would look for the Bulls to potentially keep Hoiberg for as long as it takes for him to develop.

Lastly, I love the bench depth of the Chicago Bulls. As the year went on, Doug McDermott was practically lights out. On top of the bench depth, I am a big fan of their starting five, which has a potential to be one of the best in the league.

What Went Not So Well?

As I noted before, Hoiberg is not an experienced coach. Will he ever develop? The fans are in a win now mode, and so should management. I don’t expect for Hoiberg to be out of the picture anytime soon, but I also don’t expect for him to be the 2016-17 coach of the year.

As for the draft pick, there may be options, but there are a ton of needs for this team. In time, Rose might depart from Chicago to seek a new chapter. Also, Pau Gasol isn’t getting any younger. The Bulls need to win now, or else they’ll find themselves in a rebuilding mode instead.
