Ten teams show interest in Henderson Alvarez
CBS SPORTS reports that non tendered starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez has interest from 10 teams. Alvarez, who’s recovering from a shoulder injury, was non tendered by the Miami Marlins earlier in the week.
Alvarez was Miami’s Opening Day starter in 2015, but only made four starts afterward before having major shoulder surgery. He probably won’t be ready for the start of the 2016 season. So, you may be wondering what the interest is all about? Simple. Alvarez is 25, won’t be 26 until April. This means you can give him a one year deal, see if he can perform like he’s able to, then sign him long term if you want.
Teams that could be interested, and this is just speculation, include the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, and St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers lost out on Zack Greinke, who signed in Arizona. The Blue Jays could add another pitcher and are Alvarez’s previous team. The Cardinals have lost out on Greinke, David Price, and freshly signed Jeff Sadmarjia. These are just a few teams interested. Can you guys think of anyone else who might be interested?
