Teixeira Fractures Leg, Out for Season
According to sources within ESPN, New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will be out for the remainder of the season with a fractured right leg.
Teixeira initially injured himself off a foul ball on August 17th. The initial tests showed it was only a minor bone bruise, but turned out as the worst case scenario.
Teixeira will reportedly be seen on crutches for the next month, as the Yankees go through a rough patch in their impressive season. Doctors have told the Yankees that Teixeira will need about three months to recover from the fracture.
In his placement, it’s no surprise that the Yankees will continue to trust rookie Greg Bird. He has been one of the biggest surprises this season, but it’s virtually impossible to be anywhere close to Mark Teixeira when it comes to power.
Teixeira was a major factor in the Yankees early success, as he still leads the team with 31 home runs. Many teammates referred to Teixeira as an MVP candidate, and now are just hoping to secure a wild card spot.
Up until the MRI on Friday, the Yankees and Teixeira were still in hopes for his return. Will this damage or even ruin the Yankees season? Greg Bird has some big shoes to fill, but time will answer that question.
