Running Back Stevan Ridley will join Lions

Free Agent running back Stevan Ridley announced on Instagram that he will join the Detroit Lions. ESPN’s Michael Rothstein says it is a one year deal for the former third round pick.
“To the Organization and city of NEW YORK I truly thank you for all the love,” Ridley wrote in his Instagram announcement. “But now it’s on to Detroit for me! I can’t be happier for another shot to tote this pill and showcase the gifts I’ve been truly blessed with! Detroit, I’ve got a surprise for you this year, I promise. I’m ready to get to work with my new family, so April 18th can’t come soon enough!”
Ridley exploded in his second NFL season (2012) when he rushed for 1,263 yards. However, a fumbling problem combined with an ACL injury kept him from playing much in 2014 and 2015.
The Lions already have two running backs in Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick. Ridley provides the veteran depth they’ve needed since the release of Joique Bell. Also, Ridley is only 27, so taking a flier on him is more of a low risk, high reward signing if it all works out. On a side note, Lions GM Bob Quinn was in the New England Patriots front office when they drafted Ridley, so there’s some familiarity there.

Ridley could be a steal if they use him right. He is not without talent.
