It has long been rumoured that the former UFC fighter Ronda Rousey may potentialy have a future chance in the WWE. Rousey is reportedly a massive fan of professional wrestling, and as a celebrity, she’s already appeared at WrestleMania 31. Recently, Stephanie McMahon has shown her desire to bring Ronda to the WWE.
On Friday night, Rousey was beaten badly by the current UFC women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes in just 48 seconds. It was Rousey’s second loss in a row, and this one was even worse than her first loss against Holly Holm in November 2015.
Former UFC and WWE Champion Brock Lesnar returned to the company in 2012 after losing his UFC title to Cain Velasquez and being destroyed by Alistair Overeem. There was as little as five months between his loss to Overeem and his return appearance on Monday Night Raw.
When Lesnar returned to the WWE, fans welcomed him back into the WWE with open arms, but there are a few differences between his situation and Rousey’s situation.
Lesnar’s fame began in the WWE. This particular promotion made him a star to the world and helped to provide him an opportunity to be able to compete in the UFC. His history in the WWE has already served him as a good validation to fans. Also, when he was reintroduced, he came back a heel opposite the most hated face “that runs the place”, John Cena.
Rousey would more than likely be a part-time wrestler with little-to-no experience in the business. Ideally, you would like her to be introduced to the WWE Universe as an unstoppable presence, but with her defeat still fresh in our heads, that’s a tough sell.
WWE crowds can be tough on occasions. How will Rousey handle 48 seconds chants? It’s hard to imagine her being anything apart from a face, but what happens when some of the crowd doesn’t accept her into the WWE, which could ruin her WWE career before it starts?
Rousey would have to be aligned with a face who’s status with the WWE Universe is air tight. That would probably be Sasha Banks. Rousey would then need to be pitted against a heel who routinely generates heat from the fans. Somebody like Charlotte or Stephanie McMahon.
They could play off using her recent MMA failures and her persona that doesn’t attempt to have the crowd forget her losses as well, so that it seems that she’s not being overly force fed to the fans.
In any case, Ronda Rousey’s latest loss could mean WWE’s Creative Team need to earn their paychecks if want her to be presented in the right way.
