Rockies Considering Daniel Murphy?

MLB Free Agency kicked off Saturday and the rumor mill is already at work. The Colorado Rockies are considering a run at New York Mets NLCS MVP Daniel Murphy. The idea for Murphy, if he was signed, is for him to play first base, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets.

Murphy’s success this past postseason has been well documented. He hit 3 homers in the NLDS vs. The Dodgers. He then hit 4 in the NLCS vs. The Cubs. However, his World Series have a spotlight of their own. He hit .150 in the series vs. Kansas City and made a few glaring errors which contributed to the Mets demise. In the regular season, Murphy hit .281, 14 HR, and 73 RBI.

The Mets did offer Murphy a qualifying offer, so he would reel in draft pick compensation. This actually works for the Rockies. They have the fourth overall selection in this year’s draft, and since it’s a top ten pick, it’s protected. This means that Murphy signing in Colorado would give the Mets a second round pick instead of a first round pick.
