The Houston Rockets have acquired 27 year-old point guard Ty Lawson from the Denver Nuggets. Sources say, The deal will send Lawson to Houston along with a 2017 second round pick for Kostas Papnikolaou, Pablo Prigioni, Joey Dorsey, Nick Johnson and a protected future first round pick.
Lawson is a talented guard that can hopefully give the Rockets a push in the right direction. What makes this story even more interesting is Lawson’s situation outside of the game. This year especially, it has been a large challenge faced whether or not a player’s outside behavior effects their ability and worthiness on a team. Lawson is currently in rehab and was arrested on Tuesday for suspicion of driving under the influence; he has had his share of off the court issues. In January of this year, he was arrested for a DUI. He is currently awaiting his next court appearance which will be August 20th. If he can solve his off the court issues the Rockets might have made a great decision with this deal. As far as Denver goes they have a large deal of non-guaranteed contracts, a first protected first round pick and they start a new chapter in their franchise and looks to usher in Emmanuel Mudiay as Lawson’s successor.
