Robert Griffin III Named Starting Quarterback

After suffering a shoulder injury in the week one game vs the Philadelphia Eagles, people were wondering if Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III would start straight when he came back from his injury. As of Thursday, you have the answer, as the team announced that Griffin will be starting Sunday game against divisional rival the Cincinnati Bengals.

In only one start this season, Griffin threw for 190 yards, with a passer rating of 55.0. Even though Griffin did not throw a touchdown pass, he looked alright for his first start since 2014. Before getting hurt, Griffin still looked like he was the same old quarterback from his time with the Washington Redskins on some plays. On other plays, he looked like he had some promise as the Browns quarterback.

One thing Griffin did was make some solid throws in the pocket, finding receivers in the first half, before throwing an interception that cost the team any chance of winning.

On the Browns side of things, this was a smart move by the team. Even though the team is already eliminated from the playoffs with a record of 0-12, Griffin gives the team the best chance to win a game right now and help the team not finish 0-16.

On the Griffin side of things, these last few games of the season gives him a chance that he can still be a solid quarterback after all the drama that happened in Washington and the injury problems that he has been having for the past few years.

If he can produce solid numbers, there might be a future for him in the league at quarterback. Teams that are looking to take a chance at a backup quarterback should look at Griffin, but it all depends on what he does in the final few games of the season.

Griffin is only on a two-year deal so the team can just get rid of him in the offseason with no problem, since he is not signed to a long-term deal.  If he does well, the team should look into keeping him as the backup quarterback they are most likely going to draft with one of the top two picks in the NFL draft.
