On Wednesday, Buster Olney and ESPN reported that Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale is not expected to undergo Tommy John Surgery. At this time, the Red Sox are still moving forward with caution with the 30-year old.
Last season, Sale was shut down in August for elbow inflammation. He finished the campaign 6-11 with a 4.40 ERA. This season will mark the first of his five-year, $145 million extension with the team.
Interim manager Ron Roenicke expressed the importance of Sale’s health, stating “we want as many opinions as we can. Dr. Andrews saw it and read the MRI. I don’t want to comment on it until we get one more opinion.”
Last Sunday marked the first time in which Sale threw to batters since August. He confessed that he was still feeling soreness in his elbow. He will start the season on the injured list.
