After not finding the right trade partner for Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers decided to take another route in moving on from him. On Tuesday, Adam Schefter reported that Carolina is expected to release Cam Newton. He was on the last year of his contract which would’ve paid him $18.6M during the 2020 season.

Before suffering his injury, Newton was considered one of the best duel threat quarterbacks in the NF, totaling 29,041 yards and 182 touchdowns throughout his career. Alongside making plays with his arm, Newton was able to make plays with his feet as well. He rushed for 4,806 yards and 58 touchdowns during his tenure with the Panthers.

With teams like the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots in need of a quarterback, his free agency market will likely allow him to land in the right spot.
