Red Sox Swept By Angels in Doubleheader

The Red Sox so far have had a very rough season, but things just went from bad to ugly. Last night, Albert Pujols hit three homers while the Los Angeles Angels swept a doubleheader from the Red Sox on Monday, completing a four-game sweep of Boston with a 7-3 victory. 

Pujols, Kole, Calhoun, and David Freese homered during an 11-1 win in the first game, chasing Eduardo Rodriguez in the second inning. Trout then homered along with two more homers by Pujols in the second game. The only bright spot for the Sox was when David Ortiz posed at the plate, hitting a two-run homer in the sixth for the Red Sox, who were outscored 22-4 in the series. The Angels sent the Red Sox (42-51) into a last-place tie with Seattle in the AL after their fifth straight loss. “What can we do? Just keep on putting up a fight,” Ortiz said.

Eduardo Rodriguez was obliterated for seven runs yesterday and Steven Wright’s knuckleballs were pummelled over the fence as he allowed seven runs in five innings. This was the 22-year-old’s worst outing since he allowed six runs in 3 2⁄3 innings against the Orioles at Fenway Park on June 25th.
