Here it is, number two of the recruiting series for NCAA Football. While I’m still waiting to hear from Coach John Westervelt of Paramus Catholic High School and Coach McCarty from Neville High School coaches of Rashan Gary and Rashard Lawrence respectively, I’ll talk about some of the LSU commits and signings so far. I’ve promised to have a mix of power five and non-power five schools, I’m sticking to that promise, but it’s only fitting to start the first profile with the school that’s sitting a top of the recruiting rankings.

Commits/signings: This a list of their commits/signed players by name, position, and rank in thee ESPN Top 300, names in italics have not signed. Edwin Alexander, DT (20), Saivion Smith, CB (45), Michael Divinity, OLB (46), Eric Monroe, S (64), Rashaan Thornton, DE (70), Stephen Sullivan, WR (71), Drake Davis, WR (76), Devin White, ATH (99), Erick Fowler, OLB (141), Donavaughn Campbell, OG (160), Dee Anderson, WR (187), Jamal Pettigrew, TE-Y (221), Andraez Williams, CB (267), Cameron Lewis, S (268), Andre Anthony, DE (286), Glen Logan, DT (297).

Looking at that list a lot jumps out to me. That’s a lot of defensive players, 10 of 16 if you weren’t counting. This is typical of a Les Miles team that seems to be defensive minded, who have averaged ranking in the top 15 in scoring defense. Another thing is that eight of all those players are top 100 recruits. One of the biggest surprises to me is the fact that they haven’t got a quarterback in the top 300. The highest QB available is Armani Rogers ranked 169th, but he’s a Californian and I believe he ends up at either USC or UCLA.

LSU picked up some good prospects at wide receiver too. While two of them could de-commit (I doubt that they do) Stephen Sullivan has signed to the school, but unless he shows the coaches some truly unbelievable stuff in spring, he’ll have to wait to be the number one target as Travin Dural seems to be returning for his senior year. LSU has a lot of players either committed or signed as of now, they are in they running for a few other prospects, including five star prospect guard Willie Allen. It’ll be fun to see Coach Miles mold these kids into great players and after a recruiting year like this the future looks good for a coach who was on a very hot seat last year.
