Rays, Mariners make six player deal

The first move of this MLB offseason has just taken place between the Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays. infielder/outfielder Brad Miller, first baseman Logan Morrison, and reliever Danny Farquhar from Seattle to Tampa in exchange for righty Nathan Karns, lefty C.J. Riefenhauser, and minor league outfielder Boog Powell.

This is the first major move for new Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto. The key piece for him is Karns, 27, who put up a respectable 147-inning campaign last year, working to a 3.67 ERA with 8.9 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9. He is a cheap control arm that has upside.

Acquiring Karns came at a price. Brad Miller, 26, had an extremely impressive year. Not only did he lock down the shortstop position, but he also played outfield. He posted a .258/.329/.402 batting line last year.

Morrison had his ups and downs but figures to fit into the Rays First Base/DH roles. Farquhar, 28, has proven to be a nice strikeout pitcher, although he has struggled as of late.
