Raiders Continue to Improve on Defense
The Raiders are becoming one of the biggest players in the 2016 NFL offseason based on their moves. After already acquiring Bruce Irvin and Sean Smith, the Raiders decided to sign a couple more veterans to their roster.
On Monday, the team announced that they have decided to re-sign their former linebacker Aldon Smith. Even though the numbers are disclosed, this is a huge signing for them.
Smith will be eligible for reinstatement in September for his off the field issues, and the 26-year old I’m sure is ready to set foot back in Oakland.
Originally drafted 7th overall in the 2011 draft, Smith will provide the Raiders with his ability to stuff the pass, recording 47.5 sacks in 59 career games.
On Tuesday morning, it was announced that the Raiders will also be signing Bengals safety Reggie Nelson.
The free agent safety was seen as one of the top safeties on the market, and makes the Raiders even more dangerous on defense.
Nelson has started every game for the Bengals in the past two seasons, recording 77 tackles and 8 interceptions in 2015 alone. Nelson will be 33 this year, so it’s obviously win now mode for him.
The Raiders continue to improve on the defensive side of things, and their offense will only get better as Derek Carr and Amari Cooper develop. Watch out for the Raiders in the 2016 season.
