The sudden outbreak of coronavirus has taken a toll on the world, including the sports community. With panic ensuing, various leagues have undergone precautionary suspensions for their respective sports. Without answers, the MLB is holding off the beginning of their 2020 campaign.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, there is a growing rumor around the league that regular season play could resume in the month of May at the earliest. The MLB is expected to re-evaluate all options in two weeks.
Previously, Opening Day was scheduled for March 26th. All owners agreed to suspend the league until further information about the coronavirus is discovered.
Without further Spring Training, this raises questions about how the MLB will move forward.
