As if things couldn’t be worse for the Boston Red Sox this season, closing pitcher Koji Uehara has reportedly fractured his wrist, and will not return before the end of the season the club announced on Monday.
The injury took place on Friday night, as Uehara took a line drive from Ian Kinsler to the right wrist. He would then go on to tough it out and record his 25th save of the season.
Filling in for Uehara’s spot may be difficult, as the main canidates are Junichi Tazawa and Jean Machi.
Uehara is expected to make a fully recovery before the 2016 MLB season. During his 43 appearances for the Sox this year, he has posted a 2.23 ERA while converting 25 of 27 save opportunities.
